Civil War Token - Millions for Defence MS64BN (NGC) ... F-43/388a. A popular Civil War Token subject - the spending of large sums to defend the Union. A more unusual image of Liberty used on this token, as typically Liberty was depicted in a Plains Indian War bonnet similar to the Federal Indian Cent type. Civil War Store Card - Broas Pie Baker MS63BN (NGC 2619289-004) ... F-630M-12a. An interesting commentary on the brutal necessity of the times: while Uncirculated, this token appears damaged, however this is actually due to extremely damaged dies, showing multiple clashes, heavy die cracks and die chips. Interestingly enough, one of the obvious clashes is from a different Reverse die than used on this token, as it clearly shows the tips of a "War Bonnet" such as used on a number of other issues.

HK-324 U.S.S. California Launching Dollar, Brass (Gilt) AU55 (NGC 2618553-013)...An exceptionally rare design, and an excellent commentary on buying rarity versus grade: there are only three such pieces graded by NGC in all grades, only one in Unc. This after 10+ years of certifying tokens & medals and the development of an active market in graded So Called Dollars. Originally issued on a badge (the small semi-circular area at the top edge is the remnant sign of the mount), almost all seen are significantly impaired, and therefor not gradable. The question then is do you wait for a non-existant BU example to emerge, or take the opportunity to purchase any example when it becomes available?
